Pay is $17 to $18 per hour

Purpose and Scope of position:   This role is focused on employee safety, product safety, and HR Generalist duties to support the organization. This position reports to the Director of Human Resources.

Manages all Safety Data Sheets for chemicals at the facility to ensure that they are up to date, organized, and made available to all employees

Maintains the company OSHA Log and Workers Compensation records

Performs thorough accident and near-miss investigations

Reports applicable accidents and injuries to Workers Compensation insurance carrier and manages return to work program

Performs daily safety inspections of the facility or coordinates Safety committee inspections of the facility

Leads the company safety committee and safety initiatives; follows through on safety committee assignments to ensure they are completed.

Researches, organizes, creates, and disburses weekly safety training topics for employee department meetings

Trains employees on Good Manufacturing Practices to ensure product safety

Monitors company environmental responsibility including water reports, etc.

Supervises 2-4 Janitorial staff to ensure the building is kept clean and safe. Monitors performance and attendance of janitorial staff and addresses situations appropriately

Schedules and coordinates fire drills and other inspections

Becomes forklift certified and certified to train/certify other forklift drivers who may be hired/promoted into positions which require forklift use.

Maintains safety records and reports.

Contributing member of the HR team who assists with benefit administration, recruiting, wellness, HR records maintenance, etc as needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

A successful HR Generalist/Safety Supervisor may possess the following:

  • Bi-Lingual English / Spanish
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Business or Human Resources or related field
  • 1 year HR experience or supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of employment practices, benefits and payroll, employment relations experience is a plus
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, follow-up, problem solving, and creative thinking skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, ability to multi-task and prioritize work
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills to anticipate and proactively recommend solutions
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Power Point, Word, Outlook)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to handle high level of discretion with confidential material
  • Self-directed with the ability to effectively multitask and adapt to changing priorities
